Bhirsinu Hundaina
Laura Wagner
Artist's Statement - 2007
Inspired by early stories of my life in Katmandu, Bhirsinu Hundaina
is a recounting of the tales of my childhood, my mother's experiences, and our
early relationship. Motifs of disease, support, protection and restriction permeate
the work, which explores the process of story telling as a way of integrating
personal history, fantasy, and truth.
Hundaina is a large, unbound book of prints and poems. Of the ten sections,
five are for the Daughter and five are for the Mother, each with a print and
a poem. The prints are drypoint etchings on plexiglass and were printed in an
edition of five each.
